HERE IS THE SCRIPT FOR SMS CHALLENGE :

SIFE students leverage their classroom experience, the expertise of their faculty advisor and business advisory board, and the resources of their university to develop projects that empower people to live better lives.
Their projects address a variety of topics, such as market economics, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, personal success skills, environmental sustainability and business ethics. Rather than mandating a uniform set of projects, teams are encouraged to work within the framework of these topics while adapting their approach to the diverse needs of people in different communities. They help aspiring entrepreneurs achieve success, equip the unemployed with skills to find productive employment, teach families how to gain financial security, and bring economic development to struggling neighborhoods.

The result is a program that is global in scope and purpose with the flexibility and responsiveness of a community-based organization.

The culmination of the SIFE program is an annual series of competitions that provide a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. Teams compete first at the regional and national levels, then at the international level when the national champion teams from each country meet at the SIFE World Cup.

When all is said and done, SIFE teams' projects benefit the students as much as communities they serve, and a healthy spirit of competition helps focus students’ talents and builds a culture of excellence.

SIFE UTHM reached another milestone

A seven days “Indonesia Outreach Programme” had been successfully accomplished by Students In Free Enterprise of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (SIFE UTHM) in Medan City of North Sumatra, Indonesia. This was another overseas initiative of SIFE UTHM since the “Route To China” dated back in 2008.

Started from May 26^th and ended on June 1^st 2011, fourteen energetic and passionate youths from SIFE UTHM, known as SIFErs, embarked on a journey with the mission to spread their spirit of “Bridging the difference through unity”. Besides that, they would like to bring the name of SIFE into Indonesia as there is no SIFE team yet.

The programme kick-started in the Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED), where 50 students were involved in the knowledge sharing sessions carried out by SIFErs through group discussions and presentations for two consecutive days. Both sides successfully built up their networks and the idea “To create a better world through the positive power of business” was delivered.

The journey continued with a visit to Yayasan Pendidikan Shafiyyatul Amaliyyah on the 30^th and Perguruan Islam Al-Ulum Terpadu on the 31^st respectively. Both events were officiated by the UTHM escort officer, Miss Ng Wee Fern with the person in charge from each school. Fellow SIFErs managed to instill knowledge on five topics: HIV/AIDS, Environment, Entrepreneurship, Nutrition and Future Planning, through presentations and educational games.

Apart from the formal sessions, SIFErs also spared their time to tour around Medan City. The observations of the local living conditions truly inspired the members to plan their community projects in the near future. The final day ended with a trip to the well known Toba Lake to observe the local culture and tourism development.

Throughout the journey, an estimated of at least 150 people were impacted, directly or indirectly. Representatives from Indonesia and Malaysia who participated in this programme managed to gain some valuable insights through various activities and communications. It was indeed a great learning experience for UTHM SIFErs to reach out the community and widen their horizon, besides regular lecture sessions in the university.

Memories are meant to be kept in mind...we missed the fun we had together, the smiles on our faces, the laughters of everyone! Nice team!

Project Orang Asli Tangkak (OAT)

In this Phase 1, Project OAT will be having a University Trip for the kids from Kampung Orang Asli Tangkak. The aim of having this trip is to give more exposure for the kids besides encourage them to continue their studies in tertiary level.

Project OAT at Phase 1

OAT. What's in your mind? It's Orang Asli Tangkak Project, not to be consumed for breakfast~.. Project OAT started last year and Phase 1 which is the University Trip will be held on 13 and 14th March 2011. For those who are interested to help out, you are encouraged, let us know via OAT Group or SIFE Group in Facebook.

We had visit Kampung Orang Asli Tangkak twice and we gained alot of knowledge, experience and memories.

Upon arriving... We brought some gifts and souvenirs for the children and the villagers.

The villagers are warm and gave us a warm welcoming greeting and hospitality. Other than having much fun with the kidsss...

They are just so adorable... Miss them so much~ =)

we do had interview session with the villagers regarding Economy, Health, Education and water. Besides, we get other information as well, for example, the village just get electricity supply last September 2010. Previously, the electric is generate by generator. Due to the insufficient electricity supply, they light off at 9pm everyday.

TNB- The villagers can lights off even after 12am.. =)

Economy...

The main occupation in the village is;

Yea... Rubber tapping. The villagers will go to the estate twice a day except

during rainy days.

Dried rubber that have been collected. After fully dried up, they will sell it to the buyer at town. Some people said that dried rubber stinks.

FYI: #Rubber nowadays are in good rate.# =)

Education...

There are kebangsaan primary and secondary school in the village. Some of the children in the village attend chinese primary school located not far from the village. In general, they face problem in English command as their mother tongue is Malay. They struggled coping in their studies especially science subjects. Thus, we are trying to help them in this in the second phase.

During the last visit, we had a short ice-breaking session and simple activities with the kids in the village. From their answers and work, we get feedbacks and ideas regarding their needs.

In our First Phase, we are bringing the children to UTHM for a one day trip. This is with the aim of creating interest in pursuing their studies to tertiary education, let them explore university lifestyle and environment subsequently, promoting UTHM. haha..

Water...

The source of water in the village is from the hill behind the village. They have no proper water filtration (in the picture below) but they face NO health problems due to the water. =)

This is the water tank in the village. With a simple roofing and not fully covered.

Others...

Generally, the villagers work as a rubber tapper with an uncertain monthly income. Some of them are living in poverty. *commenting through their living condition*....

One of the house in the village. It is supplied with electricity and water, but the house is not in a good condition. They may face difficulties during bad downpour. =/

The government do help the villagers by supplying brick houses for them. However, only certain villagers get to own the house.

SIFE UTHM 1 Day Camp 2010

"It was fun & I enjoyed making a bunch of new friends.", "Now, I knew what is SIFE...", "I wanna join the community projects!"...These were just some of the feedbacks we got from the participants of SIFE UTHM 1 Day Camp held on 14th August 2010.

Organised by the senior SIFErs, we welcomed all SIFE newbies and whoever interested to know more about SIFE to participate in this 1 Day Camp. We conducted a brief session to introduce the 7 criteria of SIFE-market economics, entrepreneurship, business ethics, financial literacy, success skills, environmental sustainability and program sustainability. These are the keys to determine how effectively did each SIFE team measure and demonstrate that it created economic opportunity.

Up next, we carried out a series of game which conveyed different messages to help them better understand the criteria. By the end of the day, all of us mixed around well, bonds were strengthen, and the most important thing is that we had fun, a lot! Still, the program managers of several new projects managed to promote and induce some manpower for their respective projects. A big thanks to our all-time supportive fellow SIFErs!

Karnival Aktiviti Pelajar 2010

SIFE UTHM had set up a booth during the Karnival Aktiviti Pelajar 2010 (KAP 2010) from 6th to 9th of August 2010 to recruit new members for session 2010/2011. We have received a total of 93 signup forms, which was a great news...At the same time, presentations on "PSLP" by Bobby the program manager, "SMNE 2010" by Rinesh the presenter and "What is SIFE?" by Freddie the production manager, had won them the 1st runner-up in the presentation competiton of KAP 2010. Kudos people!

Gone to Pantai Sungai Lurus every one...Pantai Sungai Lurus Project (PSLP) were proposed by SIFErs Bobby and his fellow team mates during the SIFE UTHM Conference 2010. So, this morning, 12 SIFErs in 2 cars, there we arrived at Pantai Sungai Lurus after 30 minutes drive from Parit Raja.

Hiya, SIFE UTHM just came back from the SIFE Malaysia National Exposition 2010 at PWTC,Kuala Lumpur.Wondering what's happening there that made us so excited? We are eager to share with you guys our marvellous experiences here. Read on...

We reached there too early as the registration was supposed to start only at 3pm. After settled down the luggages, we took LRT to Times Square and had our lunch there.

Back to Seri Pacific Hotel, crowd of SIFErs from different universities gathered all over the lobby. We finally made our way to the registration counter to submit the mandatory documents and claimed our room keys with loads of goodies bags.

And the rooms are so NICE!!!

Later on, we attended the soft opening and league pairing session. We were the first to get into Shell League along with SIFE UUM, SIFE UM and SIFE KLMU. That made us the first team to enter the presentation room on the next day.

Approaching night, there was a SIFE Malaysia Celebration Dinner in conjunction with the launching of SIFE Malaysia Alumni Network. We appreciated the sponsor, Khazanah Nasional for making this possible. The food were scrumptious and we met awesome people there as well. Great to see that everyone enjoyed the night!

After the dinner, fellow presenters rehearsed on their presentation hysterically though they were supposed to sleep early. Everyone also stayed up till late night just to ensure that we were well prepared for the BIG day.

Day 2

Early in the morning, we took a quick breakfast and rushed over to PWTC to wait for the call. Showered with good luck wishes from other SIFE teams, we were so ready to begin our part. Yeah, the presentation ended soon and we were bombarded with questions during the Q&A session. This part was tough as we had to backup each other with immediate responses.

Announcement of the final four was made prior to the final round competition. They were SIFE UiTM, SIFE UMS, SIFE UMT and SIFE UTP. After lunch was the Awards & Closing Ceremony. This year champion goes to SIFE UiTM, while we, SIFE UTHM got the Spirit Award, which was truly a good encouragement .

SIFE UTHM Conference 2010. Aimed to let participants know more about our club, committee members came up with 2 fun-filled days. Spanned over two consecutive days (4.7.2010 & 5.7.2010), participants were briefed on the basic understanding of Student In Free Enterprise and business world in general. Rise and shine! The day started early...8 AM!!! Luckily, there were food provided to boost our system.

English, Entrepreneurship, and Environmental Camp (E3 Camp)

English, Entrepreneurship, and Environmental Camp or in short, E³Camp was specially designed for younger generation which the camp was served as a platform to let the younger generation to gain extra knowledge about the simple self-financial management and also realize one’s responsibilities towards the environment.

Nowadays, the younger generations are under the influence of fancy market which has caused them to abandon the practice of being thrifty; spending their parents’ hard-earned money as if there are no limits. Therefore, E³ Camp was organized to share the knowledge of self-financial management to manage their own financial problem, without further burdening their parents.

We SIFE UTHM also concern about the local environment. We concern about the condition of where we are living. We realize that most of the people, regardless educated or illiterate, would still simply throw off the rubbish in their hands even though the dustbins are just few meters away. Some people do open-burning which are definitely hazardous to surrounding community. In order to solve the mentioned problems, we believe that we could change the current situation through education. We hope that all the participants would realize their responsibilities as a resident on this earth and later influence the people whom they come in contact, to spread the spirit.

Furthermore, we were trying to promote the importance of English through E³ Camp. English serves as a lingua franca in more than 100 countries and it is being the second language in Malaysia. We SIFE UTHM would like to grab this opportunity to encourage our participants to use, to speak, and to listen more English language.

In E³ Camp, we had successfully attracted 48 young minds from 3 different schools to join our program which was lasted for 2 consecutive days. For the participants, E³ Camp was an open opportunity for them to gain extra knowledge and experience which were definitely different from what they usually learned in school. For SIFE UTHM, E³ Camp was a platform for us to polish our presenting and leadership skills.

Lastly, SIFE UTHM would like to thank different parties whom supported us directly or indirectly to make the E³ Camp a success. They are:

On 8th, 9th and 10th of August, SIFE UTHM had run a stall by selling flowers during UTHM's 8th Convocation 2009 to earn some profit. The flowers sold were LilY, Rose and Sunflower. The 3 days flower business had earned us a total net profit of RM 1736.60 and THAT is a big number alright! We did not even expect to gain that much. Thanks to all who had contributed for this event!

SHELL Management Workshop

On 1st of August, team from SIFE UTHM had attended a management worshop organized by SHELL which was held at Sunway University College. The 2 days workshop attended by universities and colleges such as Universiti Malaysia Pahang, University of Tenaga National, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Multimedia University, Victoria College and students from Sunway University College itself. The workshop was filled with fun and exciting games! The activities involved were ice-breaking games, a talk regarding job application in SHELL company, poster drawing, presentations, Formula One model building and so on.

Throughout this workshop, we spent a great time and gained a fruitful experience.

SIFE National Competition 2009

Greetings to all Sifers,

SIFE UTHM kick-started this semester through the SIFE MALAYSIA NATIONAL COMPETITION 2009 which was held in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur from 20th July till 21st July 2009. SIFE UTHM team consists of 15 people including one of our alumni, Leong Kah Hon had gained great experiences throughout the journey. During the competition, SIFE UTHM presented two community serving projects mainly The Muar Gemilang and The Asli Day Out project. Due to our strong team commitment and unity, SIFE UTHM has been honored with the Spirit Award. The special appearances for the event were YB Dato' Saifuddin Bin Abdullah (Deputy Minister of Higher Education), Mr Bruce Nasby (Executive Vice President of SIFE International) and Mr Ahmad Redza Khairuddin (Chairman of SIFE Malaysia Advisory Board).

SIFE UTHM is looking forward to produce many more community serving projects to impact more people in future thus continuing our participation for the next coming SIFE National Competition!

Greetings from SIFE Malaysia!

We in SIFE Malaysia are now in the process of creating a database of SIFE Students in Malaysia which we will use it for internal purpose (Profiling File) and we will also use this file for those students who are interested to do internship with our Corporate Partners. For those who may not know, our Corporate Partners are Khazanah Nasional, Shell, Sime Darby, Philip Morris, INSKEN, MECD just to name a few. For those students who are in Final Year you are also welcome to submit your details to us as we believe SIFE Students are well-rounded individual that we may suggest to be part of our Corporate Partners organization as well. Need to be noted that every students must have 2.75 CGPA and above. Thank you for your support to your SIFE team and SIFE Malaysia!

Double Luck for SIFE UTHM

On the 20th June 2008, the SIFE UTHM had presented the Kampung Sarang Buaya Homestay project at the SHELL Project for Better World Special Competition 2008. With the sustainability of this project, we emerged as First Runner Up in this competition behind University Teknologi Petronas while University Tenaga Nasional was named as Second Runner Up.

After 2 days, SIFE UTHM moved to Shah Alam, Quality Hotel to compete in the SIFE National Competition 2008. SIFE UTHM had presented 5 projects that had been carried in the university throughout the year. We were draw in the SHELL League together with University Tenaga Nasional, University of Nottingham Malaysia and Multimedia University. With the principals of SIFE UTHM which is to generate profit and at the same time concern about the developing of the community around Batu Pahat had been awarded the Spirit Award 2008 in this competition. We the sifers from UTHM will continue to develop more community and produce more young entrepreneurs as one of the mission of the local government.

Route To China

After a success of Ayuh ke Jakarta project, SIFE UTHM once again took another step ahead and organized another educational outreach program outside Malaysia. Collaboration with SIFE Shenzhen University,we headed out to the Southern part of China in mission to experience the real Chinese world.

As the first day arrived in so strange land, we went to Shenzhen University for some get to know session with other Sifers from SZU. We were pleased to be welcomed in such warm and friendly sifers.

The next day we together with other SZU sifers went to Fu Tian and Da Fen village to experience the Sunflower project and Culture Fair project that had been handling by SIFE SZU.

It has been a very great experience for us and hope we can apply their ideas for next project.
